Making a Podcast was Easier Than I Thought

My podcast episode with Chris McDonald of the Yoga in the Therapy Room Podcast came out March 26th. This was a milestone for me, as it was the first podcast I recorded since founding Spectrum Yoga. It was actually the first podcast I’ve ever recorded!

Luckily for me, Chris made it really easy!

Chris sent me an email with her calendar link to pick a day for recording that worked best for me. I was able to work around my job schedule to find a day and time that worked. I had specified the topic that I wanted to discuss, and I gave myself enough time to do some initial research and preparation for recording.

I wasn’t sure quite how to prepare; whether to make notes or practice a prepared speech. I have a lot of experience preparing for speeches from graduate school and other speaking opportunities, so I ended up preparing as if I were presenting a speech.

To my surprise, when I got on to record I found out it was much more like a conversation. Luckily, my preparation gave me the ability to respond to Chris’ questions with some ease and grace (I think so, at least!). It ended up being a delightful conversation, and I even got to lead Chris through a Resourcing practice at the end.

Chris let me know that her team would be sending me information and materials a few days before the podcast came out. I got an email a couple of days before it was published, which gave me enough time to publicize it through my email newsletter and other channels.

I’m not sure that everyone’s experience with recording a podcast is this easeful, but I enjoyed it very much and would recommend Yoga in the Therapy Room to anyone interested in wholistic mental health and yoga!
